Have I mentioned that I live in the mountains now? Because I do and that’s still rather strange to me, coming from the rather flat Midwest. I lived in Phoenix for a semester in college, but even though it’s surrounded by mountains, Phoenix is definitely in a valley. Now, however, I live in the mountains and anywhere I go is either up or down. Or both! Today I joined a couple of the volunteers here on a walk. We each brought a baby with us, strapped into a nifty baby carrier sling thing–yes, that is its technical name. It was so nice to get out from behind the walls and just walk around. It was warm and beautiful and nice to interact with our Haitian neighbors. We passed vendors’ stands and school kids in uniform and kids who aren’t in school and people sitting in a car just listening to the radio and palm trees and dogs and a little girl who asked to keep my baby. Haiti is an intriguing place and I look forward to taking many more walks!
